I have a lot to say about the ClickHole piece that came out at Wired today.
To begin with, calling a consistent patterning of demeaning and ignoring marginalized voices a “culture war” is just plain offensive.
And Steve’s quote here is a lie. He doesn’t listen to folks like me.

I spoke with Kate Knibbs, the reporter on this piece, at length about these issues. Throughout that process, I was promised that my story would be respected and my time valued. I also sent her angry, emotionally manipulative emails Steve sent me a couple months ago after I...
Talked about ClickHole’s diversity issues on Twitter. She doesn’t push back at all on Steve’s claim that he’s listening, that he’s trying, that he’s doing his best. Because at the end of the day, @Knibbs and her editors decided his voice on this issue was the last word.
I really thought this piece would allow more voices to be heard and offer a real critique of ClickHole instead of just more fawning praise. It’s a bummer that’s not what this is. I love ClickHole in a lot of ways, but again and again, its core diversity issues are waved away.
I will say this, congrats to ClickHole for figuring out how to be cool enough to never face any consequences.
I just get punished again, and again and again for talking about this stuff. Opening up about this to a reporter who said she’d respect what I had to say and then have -this- be what’s published... having that time and emotional energy wasted is a punishment.
End of the day, no on in power in comedy is going to say anything about this. No one. A lot of very prominent comedy writers follow me on here... not a peep. I don’t think it’s because they don’t believe what I’m saying, they just are apathetic.
I’m just a trans woman with a few small credits and no power. Who cares. I could die in a ditch tomorrow and nothing would change.
