Berserk 362 Analysis (a thread) #BERSERK362
First of all to start the thread. What an absolutely incredible release this was. Never in my life did i think Miura could exceed my expectations for Gaiserics and Voids tale and here we are getting started with on of the best Berserk releases. Lets get to it!
The release starts off with where we left off in 361. Guts is possessed by the armor due to Hanarr and now its time to teach Guts a lesson. What happens to you when you stay in that state? We will get the answer through the memories of the previous wearer. Gaiseric, aka Sk.
We see an amazing spread of a crazy looking dimension with bunch of tentacle like monstrosities. Guts is able to see the perspective of Gaiseric as he is fighting off, apostle like creatures that spawn out of the tentacles. Meanwhile from up above, 5 beings watch him struggle.
And to our fucking shock. It seems to be an older variation of the God Hand, with Void being in the middle of em all. Mind fucking blown. This recalls the same imagery from the eclipse where Guts is fighting off apostles during Femtos birth. Even more parallels between Guts and Sk
But what has me wondering is, if these are really God Hand. There is no hand like in the eclipse, but we also didnt see one in the counts dimensions. Are the current ones reincarnations? Did the old ones die? So many possibilities.
Its also notworthy that they are the same in terms of gender. 4 men and 1 woman. This also pretty much answers our questions regarding the 4/5 angels that attacked Gaiserics empire. The holy see seems to have tiwsted the meaning of this event like always.
Another detail i noticed regarding the apostle spawning tentacles is that you can spot some eyes, but who do they belong to? This is a HUGE reach, but my guess is that its related to the IOE and an extension of its being. Of course the question is, if this is even possible.
And if the tentacles were indeed an extension of the IOE, which reminds me a lot of the Sea God. The fact they can create apostle like creatures like that is reminiscent of the sea god affecting the humans on the solitary island. Quite interesting
In general i wonder if these ''God Hand'' and the spawned ''Apostles'' are versions that the Idea Of Evil experimented with. Maybe they still exist, maybe they were astral entities created to then exist in a body, we shall find out.
Meanwhile as Guts is about to attack we are revealed another shocking revelation. Which is a woman related to Gaiseric, possibly his wife. Notice how seeing his wife calms down not only Gaiseric, but also Guts. A similar effect that Casca has on Guts when he is the Berserker.
The noticeable detail is that she is branded. She also looks similar to Danan, the elf queen. I highly doubt that they are related though. Her features of blonde hair and light eyes are also consistent with the people of Midland and their appeareance.
In the spread after, behind her, we see a huge fucking brand, a similar imagery to the brand in Albion. This indicates that, possibly Void, sacrificed the empire of Gaiseric, and thats where an idea kicks in.
Could the sacrifice have sucked in Gaiserics former empire into the abyss, and thus cast it away into the astral world? We see the remnants of the city in the ''abyss'' of the tower of rebirth f.e.
But whats even more noteworthy is the fact that the same city, re-appeared through an altered fashion out of nowhere as Falconia. This is brutal for Skull Knight because his own city is being used by his archenemies.
Ultimately Guts is brought back to consciousness by Schierke and is in shock to what he saw. If he isn't careful, he one day could end up like our tragic SK who reveals that this was also the death of a ''foolish king'' and the start of his journey into the darkness called death.
We know from the previous release that Gaiserics soul has been casted into his new body which also got created by Hanarr, and this is only the start of Miura revealing us more about his empire and his relationship with Void.
Gedfryn is also at the cave and as we know, his fathers name was ''Vid'' which implicates that his father was Void. If this is indeed the case, his reaction to hearing the truth will be shockingly interesting. And most importantly, where he was he when the empire fell?
Skull Knight calling himself a foolish King at the end also hits hard. You have to feel for the guy and his struggle. The day his empire fell, he also died bleeding out fighting in the armor. A destiny Guts must not face at all costs, but thats why causality is not a circle.
In general, this was incredible Fantastic art, straight to the point storytelling, masterful character work and meanwhile it connects our main protagonist more to the Skull Knight. Im blown away, Kentaro Miura is built different, and this is only the beginning.
