P.s: strictly based on my interpretation
'uhgood' is predominantly a song of ardent self-reflection n realization, discussing the various internal conflicts people have but wilfully refrain from admitting it or accepting it out loud cuz doing the same can possibly initiate a chain of thoughts that can have a severe or+
Long-lasting impact on one's mind or self as a whole: in the sense the consequences can be difficult for some to deal w, in simple words, triggering one's anxiety, n the reassurance we give to ourselves in situations like these, involving mental health n Im in love w Joon's mind+
The way I see it, the track opens with remarks of self-assurance which are not completely satisfying to the person in context, which, over here is Joon himself but he is also representative of millions of people out there who too face the problem of admitting the indecisive+
Thoughts regarding themselves out loud or accepting them. There is a kind of barrenness in the reassurance made at the beginning of the song, like an empty reassurance cuz the doubtfulness lingers. The truth, as Joon sing-raps, "All I need is me" is followed by repeated usage of+
"I know", it is perhaps for emphasising on the truth n for convincing himself of the legitimacy of it, for trying to accept n embrace it n he also ensures the listeners of the truth by addressing them, "all you need is you" which is again followed by repeated usage of "you know"+
Perhaps to convince the listeners of the truth n comfort them by confessing: they are the only person who is going to stick by them in the end, it's a miserable yet happy truth, cuz they'd have someone to go home to them, n that's themselves, this one reason makes it happy n sad+
Yet the emptiness remains, along w the repeated usage of "I know" n "you know"- it's an unnoticed habits that when we try to convince ourselves of smth, perhaps a logic or a feeling or of the truth of a situation, we tend to repeat that to ourselves, in the hope that our minds+
Will be tricked into believing it, n more often than not, it works, likewise, we apply to the same method when it comes to explaining or convincing someone of smth- we tend to repeat the fact a lot to convince them of its legitimacy, meanwhile, we try to come to terms w it as+
Well, which is perhaps why there are repeated usage of "I know" and "you know": to emphasis on how we are the only ones who are gonna be there for ourselves in the end, so we should have faith n doubt ourselves less. Ironically enough, this the exact moment where Joon admits+
His disappointment w himself, to the extent where he smtimes tramples himself, which is more than just devastation, it's demolition to the v core, he confesses his self-doubts n how he keeps on pushing himself implying how dissatisfied he is sometimes, w himself n how unhappy+
His self disappointments make him. He tramples himself to the point where he not only questions his worth but also the thought, "if you're going to be defeated, might as well die" comes to his mind. It might show his warrior spirit of never backing down, but it also shows how+
Broken he is from inside that a single blow can have such a impact on him, as if he is a mosaic, held together by glue, a splash of water n it all falls apart. To people who are broken, every little win n defeat makes a difference, a win can help them gather their shattered+
Confidence but a defeat, that can n will go a long way, to the point it can make one question their capabilities n even the purposes of their existence. Joon raps in melancholy, "To be out of place, it's hurts so much, if you don't experience it, it cannot be known", this lyric+
Is simply heart-breaking cuz of the amt. of the pain, hurt n truth it carries, it is rightfully said by him that to be out of place, to not be in alignment w the community you're in, or the profession you're in, it's the kind of pain one can only imagine if they havent+
Experienced it first hand- perhaps Joon was referring to those times when he was mocked by his friends for getting into an 'Idol' group from being a Hip Hop artist, both on his face n behind his back, for wearing make up on the streets (publicly) back when he was a part of "DNH+
Or DaeNamHyup cuz those weren't the "ideals" of a HipHop artists n Joon even admitted the transition from a HipHop artist to an Idol was smth extremely difficult for him to deal w but he succeeded nvrtheless. Perhaps it was also a ref to times when BTS as a whole faced numerous+
Rejection from the people of SK cuz they werent from the Big 3, they werent ready to accept a idol group that was coming from a then small company, the time when they received a "Black Ocean" at an award show- Joon as an individual n as a part of BTS, in both cases he wasnt a+
Part of the Ideal choice: he was out of place, he experienced the two situations of being out of place, the pain of it all in smth that can only be understood by someone who has experienced it, perhaps Joon referred to these two situations as he goes on to rap, "My ideal n my+
Reality, They're so, so far away": we know well that the life n work of an Hip Hop Artists n Idol are absolutely poles apart but Joon still wishes to "cross that two bridges to reach myself, to the real me", Joon uses "bridge" as a metaphor for "connections" and how he wishes to+
Bring bout a blend of Hip Hop n Idol as an Idol Rapper to reach his true self- who chose Hip Hop as his destiny but became an Idol instead, he doesn't regret this, he simply wishes to connect the two entities together cuz thats where his true self lies, the real him lies, but he+
Put forth the statement in a v general way which allows more people to put their experiences of being out of place n feel the pain from themselves to the point it doesn't hurt, but makes one feel more comforted cuz it gives the feeling of "not being the only one" n also make+
The listeners feel as if the lyrics arent smth they are being told of, but smth coming out from w/i themselves, the lyrics can potentially resonate w one's soul. Once again, the opening lines come in here- it's like a session of internal conflict going on where we are convincing+
Ourselves of the truth but having the doubts at the same time, a chain of thoughts initiated which take us to bad places but we try to pull ourselves out of those by repeating the truth to ourselves for convincing purposes. Perhaps these lines were brought up in the places for+
Reducing the speed of the anxiety expresses but making half-failed attempts instead- like the friction not being enough to lessen the speed, cuz everytime these lines come up, sadder yet more realistic lines follow, like when we try to stop ourselves from overthinking but it+
Fails, or backfires- we, incl. Joon himself, understand that it's only us we need cuz we're the only ones gonna be there for ourselves in the end, so we might as well trust n embrace ourselves as hard as possible but no one can stop thinking about the negative side of the+
As much as a gleeful situation it is, cuz no one is going to bother them n can enjoy their time alone after a long, tiring day, the darker side seems to get louder during times like this, cuz it's an undeniable fact that no matter how much one likes to be by themselves+
Sometimes, it does get lonely, in inexplicable n quite unreasonable ways, those are the moment when we catch ourselves saying, "I feel so lonely" in a quite peaceful environment, like the emergence of a sudden void- the result of a sudden pitfall. Joon proceeds to talk about the+
Ups n downs of life, the highs n low, he comforts us by saying that it's okay to not be able to receive the best results, it's okay to make mistakes, Joon goes, "even in the desert it can rain", stating that our grief can be never-ending but the impossible does happen, n it can+
Either for the best of the best or if worse gets to worst, either ways he tells that he can't give up on himself even if he is sometimes flawed n imperfect, cuz he is not the type to give up or back off this easily. He does Understand n realize this n so do millions of other+
People he is representing, however, the thoughts once triggered get embedded in the mind, they latch themselves onto us n feed off of our mental health like parasites, n the anxiety express begins to run again, v much like any session of internal conflicts n failed attempts at+
Reassuring oneself. Joon emphasises on how he wishes to discover n reach his true self (smth bout which he talks in Intro: Persona) by self reflecting: walking the bridge that connects the two: hip hop artists' life n an Idol's life, clearing y this was supposed to be Reflection.
In conclusion, Joon talks about mental health, anxiety precisely, n the various impacts it can have on people once such thoughts start to unroll, how it becomes difficult for some people to deal w the consequences n the condition itself, n how serious n issue mental health is+
It is not smth one chooses to have, its smth that finds us instead n Joon confesses that he is no different from us when it comes to mental health, n speaks up for the millions of people out there who afraid to do so cuz they know they might not be taken seriously, he also talks+
Bout how important it is to embrace oneself flaws n all, difficult as it maybe, but we should try our best to embrace n accept ourselves as hard n possible for discovering, understanding n unleashing our true selves n identify specially when the anxiety express starts running💜.
