In the first two years of the Trump administration (2017-19), growth in the immigrant population (legal & illegal) averaged only about 200,000 a year, in contrast to 650,000 a year from 2010 to 2017. https://cis.org/Report/Immigrant-Population-Growth-Slows">https://cis.org/Report/Im...
The slowdown in growth is entirely due to a decline in non-citizens in the country; the number of naturalized citizens continues to grow. This is probably an indication that some illegal immigrants left and/or fewer arrived, primarily from Mexico
From a companion post to the report:
Average outmigration of immigrants under Obama (2010-17): 467,000 a year
Average outmigration under Trump (2017-19): 975,000 a year https://cis.org/Camarota/New-Census-Bureau-Data-Indicates-There-Was-Large-Increase-OutMigration-First-Part-Trump">https://cis.org/Camarota/...

Main takeaway: "immigration has slowed even as the economy expanded. The notion that immigration operates outside the control of governmental policy is clearly wrong. Even relatively modest policy changes… made a significant difference." https://cis.org/Report/Immigrant-Population-Growth-Slows">https://cis.org/Report/Im...
Although the pace of increase slowed down, the nation& #39;s immigrant population still hit a new record of 44.9 million in July 2019. As a share of the US population, immigrants (legal & illegal) comprised 13.7% in 2019, the highest percentage in 109 years. https://cis.org/Report/Immigrant-Population-Growth-Slows">https://cis.org/Report/Im...
