86 years ago today, the Chatham Coloured All Stars and Penetanguishene Rangers played the 3rd game of their Bof3 final for the OBA Intermediate B championship.

1/n
The weather was typical for October in southern Ontario - cool. Game time temp was about 11C (52F). It had rained the previous two days.

2/n
Chatham lost the coin toss and batted first, but they scored in the top of the 1st to take an early lead.
Penetang responded with a run in the 3rd, Chatham restored their one-run lead in the 6th.
Penetang tied the game in the 8th.

3/n
Neither side could score in the 9th, so the game went to extras.
Both teams failed to score in the 10th, but Chatham pushed a run across in the top of the 11th to take the lead.
With darkness falling, Penetang was set to send the heart of their order up in the bottom half.

4/n
With one out in the B11th, the umpires called a halt to the game because of darkness.
The score reverted to the last inning, which meant the game was a tie, and a replay was in order.
Pandemonium ensued.
Chatham felt that they had been robbed of the game and the series.
Was this the case?
No one knows for sure, because there are no longer any eyewitnesses.
But here are a few relevant facts:

6/n
The game started shortly after 2.
Daylight Savings started at Labour Day in 1934; sunset was 5:26 pm.

The game featured 11 combined hits, 9 errors, the same number of walks, and the two Pitchers combined for 30 Ks.

It's hard to see a game like that played in <3+ hrs.

7/n
This doesn't make the discrimination the Chatham team faced during the 1934 season any less real.
And there are other factors to consider beyond this thread.
The facts suggests it may have been too dark to continue.

A replay of the game was ordered for the next day.
