Summer jobs with the Forest Service are open for applications in October and November! Search and apply for jobs on https://www.usajobs.gov/

Here’s how to make your application successful:
1. Set up your profile on https://www.usajobs.gov/  & create your resume. A resume can be as long as it needs to be, so list all job experience and all relevant volunteer experience. Be sure to include all information the Forest Service requires, like dates and hours of employment.
One way to make sure you include required information is to use the “resume builder” feature that prompts you for the information.
Be sure to list what you did in previous positions. Use active words to show your role, like:
Led
Coordinated
Created
Troubleshooting
Upload all transcripts and relevant documents to your profile.
Search https://www.usajobs.gov/  for positions using the search function. Read the requirements carefully to make sure you qualify for the position. Check back a few times each week or set up alerts so you can apply for positions soon after they are posted.
Many of the posted position descriptions are generic descriptions. You may be able to contact a contact person (who may be the future supervisor for the position) to get more details about the position, or ask for details when you interview.
Positions may only be open for applications for a week or 10 days, and they may close them even sooner after they get a certain number of applicants. So submit your application soon after the position is posted.
Make sure your resume and transcripts clearly show that you qualify for the position. An HR person will determine which applicants are qualified. Make it really easy for the HR person to see that you meet each requirement.
Apply for the position and be sure to attach all transcripts and supporting documents. If you do not include the required documents or information, your application will not be considered.
First the HR person will determine which applicants meet the qualifications that were listed. Then they forward only those applicants to the positions’s supervisor or someone else who knows what the supervisor of looking for.
That person will go through the applications, interview applicants, and contact references. Then they’ll choose the applicants who are heart qualified for the position.
3 parts of the Forest Service all three hire summer positions and interns. The National Forests manage federally owned forest land. State and Private Forestry helps others manage their forests. And Research Stations do basic and applied research to understand and manage forests.
Good luck!
