A tale of two reports out this week:
1) @DistantWelfare shows that those not able to claim #UniversalCredit are then unable to make ends meet https://www.salford.ac.uk/news/unsuccessful-benefit-claimants-during-covid-19-are-often-struggling-their-mental-health-and">https://www.salford.ac.uk/news/unsu...

2) @CovidRealities documents how experiences of social security show the very real hardship still faced by families on a low-income; despite the £20 uplift to #universalcredit - claiming remains imbued with stigma & shame
The social security system is not doing enough to keep people afloat during this crisis; & on top of the #KeepTheLifeline campaign on #UniversalCredit there is a pressing need for further structural change (e.g around the five week wait; & eligibility conditions for UC)
Big thanks to @NuffieldFound & @ESRC for funding these rapid-response research projects & to the ace @CPAGUK our partner on @CovidRealities, whose team do so much everyday to try and #Endchildpoverty
