When I worked, I got a raise 80% of the time that I asked for one. Raised my salary by over 235%.

Here is how to properly ask for more money at work.

//THREAD//
First, a pro tip: All of these techniques assume one thing:

You don& #39;t just "want" a raise. You DESERVE a raise.

You& #39;re asking for more money because you deliver value commensurate with the pay that you& #39;re asking for.

Let& #39;s go.
1: Don& #39;t ask too early.

If you just got the job three months ago, don& #39;t ask for a raise unless your responsibilities have increased *drastically*.

Nothing annoys bosses more than raise requests BEFORE you& #39;ve proven yourself.
2: Prepare with evidence, not emotions

Things to NEVER say:

- "Times are tough and I really need the money".
- "I& #39;m going through a divorce and it& #39;s super expensive".
- "My son is going to college in two years".

These won& #39;t land. Instead, https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="👇" title="Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten" aria-label="Emoji: Rückhand Zeigefinger nach unten">
3: Say the right things.

Have you worked overtime all year?
Did you deliver an impossible project on-time?
Did you earn the company an additional $2m in revenue?

EXACTLY why do you deserve a raise?
4: Pick the right time.

If your company is struggling financially, don& #39;t ask for more money. That& #39;s a great way to get your boss to secretly disrespect you.

If you& #39;re underpaid and the company is failing, FIND A NEW COMPANY.
5: Don& #39;t fear the "No"!

If the answer is no, you& #39;ve just told your boss that you& #39;re proactive and they cannot take advantage of you.

Bosses like it when their staff is "all in" with their career and job.
DO NOT ASK FOR A RAISE if you are not confident in your position.

Unless your boss is an idiot, he or she will see right through your argument.

You will fail if you don& #39;t deliver your argument with conviction.

Either you have it or you don& #39;t.
