In my first LIFE podcast I spoke about the potential connection between gluten, iodine and the thyroid. Since then, and after much more research. I believe my assumptions were mostly true. And incredibly based purely on instinct.
Iodine is one of 5 elements in what’s known as the halogen family of elements. The other four are fluorine, chlorine, bromine, and astatine. Halogens are all similar in structure to each other.
hey can attach to the iodine receptors in your thyroid and take the place of iodine.
Unfortunately, these other halogens are poisonous to your thyroid. And you’re constantly exposed to them.
You'll find fluoride in your toothpaste and in the water supply.
Perchlorate(made from chlorine) is a chemical commonly used in batteries, fertilizers, and bleaches. Industrial pollution has leached it into groundwater, which ends up in the food supply.
And bromine is everywhere! It’s an additive that is used in many products that we use every day, including:
Bread products!!!!!!!!!! (ALL)
Citrus beverages
Pesticides
Flame retardant materials
Baby products
Asthma inhalers and prescription drugs
Plastic
Toiletries
etc.....
So it's safe to assume, that if youre being overexposed to these daily items, bread, water, toothpaste etc etc etc. that your thyroid is actually storing the wrong halogen, which is poisonous! It is estimated that 80% of the worlds population today is deficient in iodine.
When your thyroid is full of bromine, instead of iodine, it cannot function properly and your metabolism and endocrine function may become imbalanced. Its kind of a silent killer because it creeps up slowly and many confusing symptoms will present.
Luckily, iodine is really good at detoxifying these other hallogens. But be careful when starting any detox. You must start very. slow and over an extended period of time so as to not send your body into shock.
