Top 5 things I love about the English...
1. Tradition of dissent and lack of deference to authority.
2. Tolerance for non-conformism. Even if it's not to your taste, even if you really don't like it, so long as it's not harming anyone you should tolerate others' idiosyncrasies.
3. Disdain for braggarts and show-offs.
4. Dislike for fanaticism and extremism. Britain's Nazis have never gained the level of open support their continental brethren have managed to achieve (although recent trends admittedly are worrying).
5. Rule of law. Respect for the rule of law has been a defining characteristic of the English. Yes, yes, I'm perfectly aware of the hypocrisies of colonialism. But domestically at least the judiciary has always stood firm against the executive.
6. A Bonus one. An Englishman will never allow his rights to be trampled upon. Even the King (or Queen) must respect them.
7. A Double Bonus one. Contempt for the French.
8. OMG...how could I omit humour....English humour is the best in the world. Witty, sophisticated sometimes risque but never vulgar for the sake of it.
9. I love being English.
