DIGITAL MARKETING TIPS

So in line with what I do for #MarketingMonday on my personal account, I do a fortnightly analysis of marketing strategies done right or gone wrong. I was inspired by @senamisomoyo who does a weekly #IPThursday thread (he's on today so don't miss it)
Because I've been thinking of changing the name #MarketingMonday (found out A LOT of people use that hashtag), I think this is a good time to run a competition:

Retweet the first tweet of this thread, follow my personal handle @allistarvolo and inbox a more unique hashtag to use
The winner, depending on but regardless of location, will receive a USD$10 cash voucher from yours truly to spend on whatever you like.

This competition will run till end of day tomorrow (23/10/20)

May the most unique and creative hashtag win!

#RebrandMarketingMonday
Alright so let's get into it:

The first thing I would like to suggest is to do away with solely or excessively hard-selling your products/services on social media.

I see this ALL the time on social accounts in Zim. I don't know what it will take to remove practice but yikes
Think about it this way:

What would you like a bank to tell me on its social pages? My bank @monzo teased the release of its new card with an image of it on its edge. Looking nothing like a card, people jokingly engaged and this happened😂 https://twitter.com/monzo/status/1318236980510134282?s=19
People online don't care about what you sell or how flashy it looks; they care about how you offerings make them FEEL when they engage in your content. Buying decisions (even of content consumption) are influenced by emotion.
Then next tip is this:
Don't try to create virality.

A lot the time, I see many companies and individuals jumping onto viral campaigns (the latest in Zimbabwe being the Jerusalema Challenge) and as much as this is all good, wouldn't it be sweeter to be the creator instead?
@MasterKGsa had NO idea his song would go viral months after it's release.

I've done a thread on that so I'll use a new source:

Thanks to @davidosullie and my main man @SouldeepCrg, I found out another song that went viral this year DECADES after its release
The video was made viral on Tik Tok by a user who was just skateboarding drinking cranberry juice. It seems like such a simple video but when you see WHEN the song came out (1977 to be precise).

NO ONE, not even the band which disbanded controversially, could have predicted it
Last (but not least) digital marketing tip is this:
Be intentional with all your digital properties as you are on the ground.

In Zim, it seems social media marketing works more effectively than websites but that's not a mistake; this is why I personally think so:
Most websites are cosmetic and not functional. We all know that people would sooner jump onto Facebook than be redirected to a website.

It's been said everywhere that a website is a digital storefront, yet all you sometimes see is just a company profile and no calls to action.
Because I'm in an economically-torn country, the reasons may be plausible:

Most people don't have access to data or wifi (which is a right) but cheaper social bundles, most people don't have smartphones, etc.

However, the mistake is thinking a website is ONLY seen by locals.
The digital world opens up your brand to the world, not just your immediate surroundings. It's possible to create unprecedented stakeholders, be it investors, potential employers or export opportunities.

They don't call it the WORLD WIDE WEB for no reason, to capitalize on it!
So in short, I think those 3 tips suffice for now. I would have expounded but a man has a job and content creation takes time!

I can do another thread later, hoping to find some time because I've got some interesting work to do today (which I'll probably share later)
Oh and PS:

These tips apply to both institutional and personal brands. It's not just companies that need to ensure they are on-brand: yourself as an individual also needs to have a brand and this applies to ALL professions and disciplines, whether people hate or love you 😂
Don't forget the competition instructions! I hardly do this (who gives away money in this economy and in this year? 😂) but my brand depends on it, so I'll call it an investment or me buying an idea.

Ciao for now!
