I’d genuinely like to know how @MatthewHootonNZ would’ve handled the Auckland cluster differently. Recall that 4 cases ballooned to a total of 179, w sadly 3 deaths. People who didn’t comply w Level 3 contributed to a new sub-cluster. These reckless takes endanger our response /1 https://twitter.com/matthewhootonnz/status/1318808577117597697
And foster anti-lockdown sentiment, which paradoxically can lead to extensions on restrictions as people who don’t follow public health advice may prolong spread. These sorts of “hot takes” are unhelpful, and contribute little but misunderstanding, distrust, and resentment.
I am genuine about this - @MatthewHootonNZ I would really like to know how you would’ve handled this particular cluster situation differently.
In my opinion, our short and sharp and localised Level 3 saved us a world of pain. Elsewhere we see the consequences of too-late lockdown or inadequate action. This great thread @GidMK covers the IMF report on lockdowns and economy: https://twitter.com/gidmk/status/1315803791979995136
