I am so tired of this “I bet they have an iPhone argument” when people ask the government to help them not literally starve.
First of all, the very crux of capitalism is that you HAVE to participate in it in order to keep existing. It, by design, kills you if you don’t.

SECOND OF ALL the Venn diagram of people who suggest those in poverty shouldn’t have iPhones, and who say people in poverty should “just go out and get jobs” is a smooth circle.
Technology, especially now, is imperative to your access to higher paying jobs and opportunities.
Technology, especially now, is imperative to your access to higher paying jobs and opportunities.
By suggesting people on lower incomes LITERALLY SHOULDN’T HAVE TECHNOLOGY you are limiting their access to jobs which would in turn pay them well enough to be able to feed their families.
People shouldn’t have to choose technology, or starvation.
That mindset just perpetuates poverty.
Just say you think poor people deserve it and you’re a bootlicker for the upper classes and go.
