First off, I should say that these are tips/suggestions i’ve picked up from professors, tutorials + my own experience
NOT rules

If you do things differently, that’s fine
if you wanna try any of these tips, I hope they work for you
if you have any questions, please ask!
First lets go over how I do it:

Cell Shading can be done in a couple different ways, the two that I use most are the Brush or the Lasso Tool.

Both work perfectly, but I just have a lot more fun with the Brush.
I feel like I am sculpting the characters and I love that…https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/... draggable="false" alt="❤️" title="Rotes Herz" aria-label="Emoji: Rotes Herz">
When cell shading, it might feel like less is more, but thats not the case!

-More likely than not, the shadows are gonna cover 1/3 of the subject

-Not every shade needs to be 100% accurate, if the message is delivered or it looks visually appealing then its fine
After coloring in all the shadows I set it to Multiply, with a 50% opacity, I might go anywhere from 45% to 55%, depending on the harshness of the light.

I use Magenta as a standard color to keep a “signature look” and because I like how it looks on all of the pieces.
I used to play around with the colors, and I have found some colors that work, depending on the mood and setting!
I added some random ones here, just to give you an idea of what they look like, so you don’t have to test them all out.
One of the most productive exercises i did in college had all the students in a circle, looking at a model, we had to draw what the person 90° away from you can see, without moving from your spot!!
This exercise is important because light is a straight line, it does not curve and bend

The only thing that DOES curve and bend is the body

If you can figure out how bodies curve, bend, stretch and squish the easier it will be for you to draw shadows!!!
This is just a short thread on the topic, andI hope you guys enjoy it

if you have any questions, I will do my best to answer them.

I might add things as we go along or think about them, but for now, thats what i can think about!!!!
