To those of us old enough to remember June 12 '93 & aftermath, the tactics being deployed in Nigeria now are familiar. Querying eye witness accounts, muddying the waters of the narrative, briefing of global media, subtle & not so subtle ethnicity nudges, good cop,bad cop routine
This was exactly how we were turned from euphoria of Hope 93, all of us united at having held the freest & fairest elections in our history, with a resounding historic victory for an unheard of ticket of 2 Muslims (Abiola & Kingibe) to querying each other, suspicion & mistrust...
So we must respond similarly Do our own global lobbying as Tinubu & co did in exile in 93. Plan & sustain global media counter campaign & demos mobilise & use Nigerian media & grassroots. Never give up. It didn't ultimately work for IBB & Abacha when we didn't have tech of today
Plus our Gen Z warriors. So do not be despondent, ignore the distractions, it will get worse. If the playbook is the same, highprofile supporters of #EndSARS will change their tune and swap sides. The international community too will be fickle. Do not be moved but be resolute...
I'm bearing witness because I now realise that I assume wrongly that younger Nigerians are as intimate with our history as those of us who lived it are...and hopefully recognising patterns & seeing what's coming can help avoid them making the mistakes of earlier generations....
