We surveyed our professional rider members to understand the impact of Covid-19 on professional cycling to help identify issues and concerns to inform @UCI_cycling so that we can work together to ensure protocols at future races are respected to put everyone's health first.
2020 Races that scored well in adhering to the UCI protocols included; La Course, Strade Bianchi and GP Plouay. However, Tour Cycliste Feminin International de l'Ardeche, Giro Rosa & Emakumeen Nafarroako Klasikoa were stated as not adhering to the protocols set out by the UCI.
One of the key issues for the women riders was that nearly 30% of riders had no team doctor or access to a doctor during races despite the protocols outlining many procedures as the responsibility of the team doctor.
25% of riders had to arrange their own Covid-19 PCR tests and nearly 10% had to pay for the PCR tests themselves.
We have seen a rise in the number of Covid-19 positive tests within the women's peloton and subsequent withdrawals of riders & teams from races, but there is currently no guidance from the UCI on what happens when positive tests arise between 1-day races scheduled close together.
