Dutch Schultz changed his name from Arthur Simon Flegenheimer to shred his father’s name.

Dutch’s father abandoned him and his mother when Dutch was a young boy.
Dutch made his name in bootlegging and racketeering alongside another infamous mobster Lucky Luciano.

Both learned everything they knew from Arnold Rothstein.

Arnold Rothstein was a man that pioneered American Mob Inc. and paved the way for organized crime.

He took a liking to Dutch Schultz and Lucky Luciano but quickly saw the potential only in Lucky Luciano.

Dutch could not overcome his ego to play the game successfully.
After Arnold Rothstein’s death, Lucky Luciano took over a part of Rothstein’s empire while Dutch Schultz got nothing.

This would set Dutch Schultz off on the self-destructive path which eventually gets him killed.
Dutch goes back to the only thing he knows how to do.

Be violent and aggressive.
Lucky Luciano doesn’t approve how Dutch Schultz conducts his business.

It causes too much attention as Dutch starts wars with everyone which eventually catches the attention of the government.
Thomas Dewey, a public attorney vows to end the organized crime. He begins to close in on the reckless Dutch Schultz.
Dutch doesn’t know how to deal with extra attention from the authorities and asks the Commission (Governing body of the American Mob) to kill Thomas Dewey.
Lucky Luciano (seating member of The Commission) realizes this would bring down everything they built and denies Dutch’s request.

Dutch goes against the Commission and attempts to kill Thomas Dewey anyway.

The Commission orders a hit on Dutch Schultz.
Oct. 23, 1935 in a place called Palace Chop House where Dutch regularly ate, he was hit.
Two Murder, Inc. hitmen Charles "The Bug" Workman and Emanuel "Mendy" Weiss, entered the restaurant and shot Dutch Schultz.

Lucky Luciano was an intelligent, successful yet low-key mobster who did things outside the public eye. Dutch Schultz was the opposite. He was flashy, aggressive and drew too much attention that he didn’t know how to deal with.
Dutch Schultz could not overcome his programming even though he had the knowledge of the people around him and the right mentor to guide him.

He wasn’t able to let go of his ego to try different strategies and tactics.
Where Lucky Luciano succeeded and thrived, Dutch failed.
