Th liveliness of Hauz Khas at all times of the day definitely played into the decision of taking this house. The cycle makes HK way more accessible now than before. It's just such a happy place. Between Hauz Khas and Green Park, I literally have everything I need.
There's a certain multi-cultural feel to Hauz Khas and Green Park vs GK. I don't know what it is about GK but it screams of Delhi a little too loudly. A lot of people call GK the Bandra of Delhi but I think Hauz Khas and Green Park qualify way more as the Bandra of Delhi.
Not that Delhi can have a Bandra ever because Delhi is Delhi and Bombay is Bombay. But, yes, so glad I was right about both these neighbourhoods.
And let me add Asiad and Siri Fort to this too. The Siri Fort sports and cultural complex is truly all one needs to be close to. My landlords, sweet as always, had told me all about Siri Fort when I'd first visited them. And it had seemed wild. LOL.
But, yes, it's nice to be able to watch Devika Rani at a stone's throw away from one's house. And ride along happy green areas and know that you can learn a new sport whenever you feel like it. And when your body is okay to put in the extra effort đź’š
Was thinking about how I'd found this house yesterday. It's true that if you help someone out, the universe will help you out. My Bombay landlords had requested me to help them find a tenant before I left. I'd put up a post on one of the Facebook groups.
I'd found someone who had been just like me: straightforward, no games, not fussy. And she had been from Delhi. So when she heard I'd been moving to Delhi, she told me to reach out to this person she knew who helped people find good houses.
And, long story short, this person knew a lot of my old colleagues and I'd been following his wife on IG already and it was all one big happy meet-cute and things had just fallen in place - after I'd seen 25 or so other houses because I was meeting them right at the end. LOL.
Why I rejected 27 other houses, to be precise, is: no lift (to a house usually on the fourth floor, like c'mon! With my forgetfulness!), no main gate which could be locked / guard or, most often, strange landlord who looked me over from top to bottom. Hahah. Delhi, oh Delhi.
