shout out to all my nonbinary pals who don't use he or she that make have to make this face all the time
anyway this episode better not injure me i swear to go i am afraid to unpause
if you are not trans you do not understand the visceral anxiety that just made me pause netflix right now lmao
I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW HARD I LAUGHED
it's exactly what cis people deserve
god i feel like i'm just watching my twitter TL
i'm sorry i didn't intend to live tweet star trek but i mean *gestures in trans*
star trek said nonbinary supremacy
This episode is doing extreme role reversal where the trans-coded character is asking awkward invasive questions to the cis crew, just like cis people do to trans folks every day. I'm fascinated because even though this is 30 years old it's still SPOT ON.
I am a little concerned that the end result of this episode will be that the trans-coded character "discovers binary gender" and I don't think I will enjoy that if it happens, even though it would still be an analogy for transness.
oh super they're letting worf be the token transphobe. stop it star trek i like worf.
y'all i fucking called it
i mean i'm not surprised because it is supposed to be trans analogy and this is the way to do it the way they set it up, but i just... don't like the idea of the person transitioning away from a position of already being trans lol.
i'm not even really opposed to it because this is to educate cis people and this is probably an easier way to understand it, but *looks at all my nonbinary friends*
this episode aired in 1992
//tw references to trans violence and conversion therapy

this scene got me. this was 1992 but it could be today and that's just... it's been almost 30 years and this is still relevant.
ok but like i want to make it clear that immediately after that riker, without even breathing, asked if she fucks. like not even a 'that's rough buddy' just 'hey do you fuck tho?' william t riker you horny slut.
ok but i wanna know how this actress got her chest so flat cuz like my binder does not give results like this lmao
ok riker and soren left to "inspect some plants" which is a weird euphemism imo but someone peeped them leaving so now i am emotionally prepared for transphobic tragedy to strike
there's the transphobic tragedy
đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„ THIS AIRED IN 1992 đŸ”„đŸ”„đŸ”„
fyi jonathan frakes is on record saying that a male actor should have been cast to play soren and this is why we stan jonathan frakes even though riker is a horny slut
so yeah they totally conversion therapy'd soren which is what i expected to happen in the end. overall definitely not something i would warn people NOT to watch because it's unexpectedly quite authentic rep, despite being a little dated and being all cis actors.
i do not regret watching that at all even though it had a sad ending. imagine seeing that on TV in 1992, IMAGINE IT.
