the thing about rice:
rice is a staple in many asian cuisines. the issue with rice is that it can tend to be high calorie because we tend to eat A LOT of it with dishes.
if eating rice, watch portion size/sub rice for something else (quinoa, cauliflower, etc.)

fish/seafood/seaweed is a big part of the Japanese diet (which makes sense because Japan is an island) and is used over any other meat. they are rich in omega-3s which are very good for you.

ramen is a noodle dish. you can sub for shirataki (at your own risk, i still think the noodles are worth the cals)

jana note: you know, i did a lot of research and for apparently NOT eating a lot of egg/meat, there are lots of egg/meat heavy dishes in anime just a thought i had, i find it weird

Miso soup (i fucking love miso soup) is a soup made from a dashi stock and fermented soybean paste (miso)

Sushi - we all know sushi. Sometimes fish, seafood, egg, cooked, raw, seasoned, with rice, seaweed, roe. It’s the great thing about sushi, customizable to what YOU like (and generally low calorie especially if you eat it without rice)
Tempura is the Japanese batter for frying. It’s not low cal (duh) but definitely better than American fried foods. Typically it’s shrimp tempura, but anything can be fried in tempura batter.

Japanese Parfait is a dessert usually consisting of different layers of cake, ice cream, fruits, jam, etc.

Natto is a Japanese dish of fermented soybeans - it presents as sticky and is often described as smelly. It’s a good fermented food with probiotics but some hate it. You were warned.

the culture and society in Japan involves a lot of moving, standing, walking, etc. in anime, we commonly see characters walking to school or around town, taking the train and standing, or biking to their places. essentially, lots of physical movement.

in school, there is a lot of physical activity in PE and lots of characters are involved with a sport (h4ikyu, yĂĽri on 1ce, free!, etc.) they also have a cleaning time after school which involves moving and labor

as previously stated water and green tea ONLY. I’m putting this towards the end because hydration is important for weight loss and exercise, but green tea is known to have great antioxidants and speed up the metabolism.
