Just learned that Nigeria & Sudan/South Sudan have some very connected colonial roots. Yes, obviously the whole British colony thing but more specifically, a man named James Wilson Robertson- a British civil servant whose 1st “post” was Sudan from 1945-1953.
Because of his “good work” & recognition of the similar north/south divide he saw in Sudan.. he was appointed to a post in Nigeria & specifically instructed to keep the country “whole” rejecting any separation talk. He became the last colonial governor of Nigeria in 1960.
Not that anything like this is needed to recognize & speak up but just another small example of how we are all, quite literally connected & fighting the exact same fight.
