artists: i haven’t seen much talk about this but getting third party playlisting on spotify, particularly by playlists not run by artists or labels, hurts your chances of getting editorial playlisting because the listener to stream ratio is usually poor and saves are much lower
your efforts and $$$ are probably better spent in the long term getting your fans to follow on Spotify for release radar, presave campaigns, running Facebook and insta ads, and email marketing
From what I understand there’s also some benefit to getting some blog placements as Spotify crawls the web to see if songs are getting traction online
I’m only just learning about this but looking into all this I’m seeing a lot of success stories as far as getting editiorial playlisting and real spotify growth from people who using these methods rather than the “get my song in as many playlists as possible” theory
Spotify’s already hard as it is for marketing your songs, I hate to see my friends shooting themselves in the foot and dropping $$$ on marketing that is only good for driving playcounts and not long term growth
