I grew up an only child, both parents worked all their lives yet during the miners strike we knew hunger, I was on free school dinners, during the holidays I walked miles to go to the local soup kitchens ran by miners wives on donations from public
We relied on food parcels sent
From other Countries like Poland, Russia. One day I picked a foreign tin out the cupboard as it had a picture of a chicken on thinking it may be Chicken Soup...it was a tin of pineapple rings.
We got through the full year of being on strike. My parents bought sacks of potatoes &
Trays of eggs. I dont think I saw chocolate or sweets for a year. We never had a Sunday joint of meat for a year, my Christmas present that year was donated by strangers.
I've spent my whole life detesting the Conservative Party.
I never thought I'd see again a UK Govt attempt to
Starve the people who are its very future.
The Tories taught me a valuable lesson in 1984 as an 11yr old. Never Vote Tory. It's a harsh lesson but once learned it's one thats never forgotten.

And I hate pineapples to this day....
The point I'm making is, if this Govt can spunk Billions of pounds on failed projects or hand over 100s of millions to "start up" companies or 10s of millions in food vouchers for people to prop up multi-billion pound organisations then it can afford to ensure poor kids are fed.
