Today marks the 51st anniversary of the Kacaan. Heres a thread of some of the accomplishments during those 21 years in power.
The Revolution made drastic changes to the Country. Universal healthcare, free education, banning qabyalaad, gender equality etc. Before the Kacaan all schools were taught in either Arabic, English or Italian. Far Soomaali was officially adopted and standardized under the Kacaan
-in 1972. This made sure students would be taught in Somali. The Bar Amo Baro Literacy Campaign was made shortly after. 100,000 Teachers/students were moved across the country to reach rural areas. Somalia won a UNESCO medal. The Literacy rate jumped from 5% to 75%
One of the greatest accomplishments was also the drought relief during Abaartii Dabadheer in 1975. Thousands of people were relocated to the south
Somalia had an industrial boom. We had a factory for almost everything.
In 1977 we went to war with Ethiopia to free Galbeed.
I cant forget the Golden Age of Somali Music. Bands/Singers like Khadija Qalanjo, Xasan Aadan Samatar, Shareero and Durdur captured the 70’s and 80’s with their songs
