Suicides have NOT increased in BC.
I am happy to be able to publish this important information on suicide rates with the @bccoroners release of suicide data.
Specifically, the "pull together" effect (less suicides during time of crisis) was seen. Otherwise, entirely average.

From 2008-2019, the suicide rate from Mar-May ("lockdown period") was 12.4 per 100,000 person years.
For 2020, the suicide rate from Mar-May was 9.7 per 100,000 person years.
That's a 22% decrease (95% CI 7%-35%)

Please note: the suicide rates per month are VERY noisy, so caution is necessary to make large claims. I am reporting the ONLY two a priori questions I've asked. The monthly numbers look like this:
