okay because i’m hypercaffeinated and unhinged rn here’s a thread on my reasoning behind the varrick-is-sokka’s-son theory.
disclaimer: this is merely a thread based on a headcanon I HAVE. think what you want + feel free to discuss this further with me in dms or something but this is my own personal avatar headcanon that i feel strongly about and would like to share.
so basically, if you’ve followed me you know i post that varrick is sokka’s son all of the time but you might not get why i think it.
here are all of the reasons i have so far! (will update this thread sporadically w new info + theories)

1. the obvious evidence.
sokka and varrick are both native to the southern water tribe. we know that varrick industries is based out of the swt, and that before his death, sokka had been chief. (1/2)

they both share a passion for inventing, and both have revolutionized technology in many different ways— specifically on the transportation forefront. (2/2)
2. their mannerisms!
i made this fancam by searching through ~4 atla episodes. out of those episodes, there were a significant amount of parallels between the two— i can imagine that if i had dissected all of sokka's scenes, there would be even more.

also in mannerisms/speech patterns we have this imbalance panel that makes me go absolutely feral.
literally why would they include it if they didn’t want to imply something. there’s no purpose otherwise literally no purpose at all.

“varrick is too young to be sokka's son”
i mean technically just because his friends/siblings had kids earlier in life doesn't mean sokka had to— men have kids late in life fairly often

"varrick is a terrible fighter and lacks the spirit and motivation that sokka had”
not all children are carbon copies of their parents— in fact, many choose vastly different paths than the people who raised them. sokka, presumably, would hope that his children would not (1/2)

necessarily need fighting skills, as the world would hopefully be at relative peace following the hundred year war— he wouldn't want anyone in danger (2/3)
however, while skills and levels of training and/or privilege typically vary between parents and their children... mannerisms, interests, and figures of speech (the shared traits between varrick and sokka) ARE things that many children tend to mimic. (3/3)
“varrick is spoiled... sokka would never parent that way”
sokka LOVES shopping; are you telling me that sokka wouldn’t come home from the market every single day with something new for his kid?
i feel like varricks room from a very early age would end up looking like this

“but varrick said he ran away from his home on a farm to join the circus”
imo if sokka’s kid said “dad, I want to join the circus” sokka would 100% encourage him to go for it... also the concept of auntie ty lee teaching varrick all ab the circus when the kyoshi warriors visited

4. varrick owned the southern water tribe cultural center in republic city… what stood in front of the swt cultural center?
a BIG ASS statue of sokka (which happens to be the only sokka memorial we see in the series)
paying tribute to dear old dad?
