I've been reflecting on the number 20... how I relate it to Social Work after the webinar @SW_student_con.
So I thought I would create a thread of 20 things I'm grateful for. As a 24 year old Yorkshire lass and as a social worker.
So I thought I would create a thread of 20 things I'm grateful for. As a 24 year old Yorkshire lass and as a social worker.
1) I am firstly grateful to be here today. To be alive and to be happy and loved.
2) I am grateful to have graduated during a pandemic. To be a qualified social worker in 2020.
I am proud of the rest of the 2020 cohort. You are wonderful.

3) I am grateful to be learning all the time for fabulous opportunities to connect through twitter and learn from academics, social workers and other professionals.
Social work for me is all about learning, every day is a learning curve and it's wonderful.

4) Social work is my passion. I am humbled by it every day.
I am grateful to the families I meet. I could write 20.000 facts about what it means to me when we work together

5) I am grateful for my social work team, the laughter makes the hard times better.
6) I am grateful for my family, for my dogs, for my partner.
Coming through my degree and into the profession could not have been done without them being my own set of cheerleaders

7) I am grateful SO grateful for @YorkshireTea you get me through the day
8) I am grateful for organisations like @BASW_UK for their guidance, for their research and for the way they advocate on behalf of the profession.
9) I am grateful to both my practice placements and my practice educators. I learnt very much in such a short space of time about myself and social work
10) Social Work is a special profession, we are working with families at pivotal times in their lives, we have the opportunity to help shape better futures and experiences. The moments we share will never be forgotten and I am grateful for the opportunity to share in this.
11) I am grateful for other disciplines and agencies. Thank you to them and all that they do, especially our partners in the NHS.
Let's support them and advocate for greater change to make our services better. Remember this is needed structurally and we can help challenge that.

12) I am grateful for beautiful sunsets and times I get to walk my dogs. For the self care I offer myself after a busy week.
13) I am grateful i have been able to understand the complexities of the profession to see things from different perspective. To see beyond my world and self.
14) I am grateful for seeing the creativity of others, of seeing new ways of working and being able to add this to my own toolkit.
15) I am grateful for the children I meet everyday, for their bravery and their smiles and ability to share the most difficult stories and even after everything find ways to trust again
16) I am grateful for custard creams, for all the snacks that taste so good. They're important. They provide nurture.
17) I am grateful for those that want change that are trying to make big changes in the world to lessen climate change to lessen austerity. To find a world better for every single person.
18) I am grateful that social work has given me a platform to learn about other cultures and to open an essentially very naive and Yorkshire mindset. Without social work, I feel my world would be smaller.
19) I am grateful that I better understand myself. I am a social worker, I have experience of services, I am very happy, I have survived some difficult things and it is okay that I still struggle sometimes. We are human and that is amazing.
Social work gave me hope.

20) I am grateful that social work has given me the opportunity to be the change and make a difference. I am lucky to be doing this and even when its hard, this is what I reflect on.
Social work is a calling. It is more than 20 things because it is in everything we do and love.
