What they really mean - a thread.

1. Virtue signalling.

Used as an insult to suggest you're simply trying to jump on the 'being nice' bandwagon (which is apparently a bad thing) - basically means 'you're proving that you're pleasant.'
2. Identity politics

Used to suggest there's something off and unseemly about trying to ensure everybody is treated with respect and kindness. Basically means 'you're nice people trying to make the world nicer'
3. Free speech

Used to suggest that they're being silenced for their abhorrent, medieval views and opinions that have no place in a reasonable society. Basically means 'I can say what I like and you're not allowed to react in any way'.
4. Libertarianism

Used to suggest that 'all government is a joke, all taxation is theft and we'd all be better off if we were all like me'. Basically means 'I think I'd be ace in a zombie apocalypse and want to base policy in this hypothesis.'
5. Snowflake

Used to suggest a certain generation is weirdly fragile and insecure, plus beautiful, unique and can change the world if grouped together. Basically means 'you're a wimp because you're not an absolute sociopath.'
6. Marketplace of Ideas

Used to suggest all ideas are equal and good ideas will prove popular and succeed naturally. Like Nazism did in the 30s, or Hear'Say. Basically means 'I can believe in genuinely harmful, evil shit and pretend it has to be given airtime.'
7. Both sides

Used to suggest both the goodies and the baddies have their flaws and weaknesses, whilst the goodies try to feed kids and the baddies try to starve them to death. Basically means 'I can't just criticise the obvious villains, as I'm a villain myself'
8. Do-Gooders

Used to suggest that people who go out of their way to do good things for the world are...somehow bad in some impossible to define way. Basically means 'I am a Do-Badder.'
9. Socialism

Used to suggest a kind of uber-evil communism. Basically means 'I don't actually know much about politics at all - like a laughably small amount - but that isn't going to stop me bleating on.
10. Cultural Marxism

Used as a way to frighten rubes into believing we're all sliding into communism cos we're trying to stop nazis coming back. Basically means 'anything cultural that isn't far-right-wing is despicable and bearded and buried in Highgate cemetery.'
11. White Knight

Used to suggest that the only reason you are defending a woman (usually online) is because you want to have sex with her, as that's the only currency the speaker understands. Basically means 'I'm a shit to everyone unless I might get laid.'
12. Woke

Used to suggest that all your desire to be as fair minded and unprejudiced as possible is a ruse, a game, a nonsense, based on idea of 'awakening', like it's a bad thing to be awake. Basically means 'people can't possibly be nice just for its own sake.'
