Alright...here's the neat version.

#NabarimaFactCheck
1. The FSO Nabarima is a floating oil storage vessel. It was built in 2005 for ConocoPhillips (Google it) and in 2007, Venezuela seized control of it.

See the Nabarima. ⬇️
2. An Italian Oil company called Petrosucre joined up with Petroleos de Venezuela in the same year and they were the ones running the operations.
#NabarimaFactCheck
3. Petroleos de Venezuela, aka PDVSA, was sanctioned by the government of the United States of America in 2019 (remember that????) and both they and Petrosucre stopped operations because of this. #NabarimaFactCheck
4. The Nabarima fell into a state of disrepair and stayed there because what can you really do when you've been sanctioned???

There is currently over 1.3 million barrels of crude oil aboard. #NabarimaFactCheck
5. Here is where Trinidad and Tobago comes in:

T&T is 734km away from Venezuela.

That's it. That's the tweet. #NabarimaFactCheck
6. Because if you were paying attention, the Nabarima is Venezuelan property and should ideally be dealt with by VENEZUELA. #NabarimaFactCheck
7. HOWEVER, Fishermen and Friends of the Sea, a TT marine NGO, reached out to US Ambassador to T&T as well as the European Union sometime in August of this year after there were whispers in July of the Nabarima tilting. #NabarimaFactCheck
8.And gurl! When I tell you CRICKETS!

NO response was forthcoming from either party as of September 09th when a Trinidad Express article was written about the issue. I cannot say if a response ever came forth. #NabarimaFactCheck
9. On September 02nd, TT's Energy Minister Franklin Khan said that Venezuelan authorities had assured them that the vessel was not in fact leaning (of course, as we're just finding out, eso fue una mentira). #NabarimaFactCheck
10. But that ain't got NADA to do with Trinidad and Tobago as far as the ship's REMOVAL. The government of T&T has been aware of the issue for at least THIRTY days but could not act for the simple fact that THEY NEEDED PERMISSION! #NabarimaFactCheck
11. The government asked to inspect things when the lean was confirmed BUT they weren't granted actual permission until October 20th even though the target was actually the end of September. #NabarimaFactCheck
12. Gary Aboud, Corporate Secretary of FFOS, was featured in a video claiming that the government didn't care about what's happening with the Nabarima and a lot of people in the region and elsewhere are eating it up like linguini. #NabarimaFactCheck
13. That claim, as evidenced by articles as early as September 1st, is inaccurate. If anything, Trinidad and Tobago is the hapless victim of US-Venezuela spatting and more that either of these countries, WE are the ones that will lose. #NabarimaFactCheck
14. Instead, many on social media have chosen to essentially make THIS island nation one of the villians of the situation when it is documented that it isn't the case. Damned if you do... #NabarimaFactCheck
19. In conclusion, the Nabarima is the not the responsibility of the GORTT.

This particular disaster is as a result of sanctions by the US and the irresponsibility of Venezuela to properly care for THEIR property.

Please stop calling T&T's name. #NabarimaFactCheck
If I've forgotten anything, feel free to add to the thread.

If I've mistated anything, feel free to correct me.

This is info from TT's articled side of things. If you live in Venezuela and have info to contribute, feel free. Let's all LEARN together. #NabarimaFactCheck
In point 5, I gave you the AIR distance between T&T and Venezuela. However, I should have given you the coastal distance. This user was kind enough to help. Thanks to him (or her)! #NabarimaFactCheck https://twitter.com/outtapocket_tt/status/1319005461836931073?s=19
Let's address the sanctions ting while we here:

#NabarimaFactCheck
So there are international sanctions (generally applied by the United Nations) and then there are unilateral sanctions.

IS must be adhered to by all UN members. Once you're UN, you MUST abide.

Unilateral sanctions are implemented by individual countries. #NabarimaFactCheck
The US-PDVSA sanction is a unilateral sanction. A country to company sanction. In the past, US sanctions have crippled economies of those dependent on the US (see, Cuba). But really and truly, unisancs are statements of opposition. #NabarimaFactCheck
This isn't why TT hasn't acted though. I mean, in hindsight, to a very small extent, it's a good thing we acted the way we did.

But more importantly, a fight with Venezuela in ANY WAY will not be good for us. We're already struggling with COVID... #NabarimaFactCheck
...and Venezuela is literally right there.

If Uncle Keithos, mere days before his 71st birthday, decided to do what outsiders, and some insiders sadly, are saying and HowHeName ketch a mad vaps, what would have been our portion???? #NabarimaFactCheck
THAT is why we took the approach we did.

We cared. But we were stuck.

Okay. I'll shaddap now. #NabarimaFactCheck
"An Eni spokesperson said on Friday that the company was seeking to offload crude from the vessel, and had requested a "green light" from the United States government "in order to prevent any sanctions risk." #NabarimaFactCheck 👀 https://twitter.com/lastresobejas/status/1319012740896333829
