A little heads up that some Indigenous people only reluctantly use English pronouns (myself included).
Many Indigenous cultures have their own complex relationship with gender identity; one that has the spirit and connection to the land at its core. #InternationalPronounsDay

A lot of our traditional pronoun system structures have been fragmented (sometimes completely lost) due to colonization.
To try and explain Indigenous pronoun identities in English (a colonizing language) feels wrong; a disservice; it can never be accurately described.

So when I see people speaking about pronouns it hurts me that I have to use my colonizerâs language out of convenience for others. That I have to identify within the English pronoun system to some degree.
Because of this I know many Indigenous people prefer their name only.

I know this seems like such a buzz kill on #InternationalPronounsDay but I think non-Indigenous people should know the added despair for Indigenous people using a pronoun system not our own.
Gender/pronoun identity is hard enough, but when you add in colonization itâs just...
