okay, I’m bored so I’m gonna make a thread about the artist B-Slade ( formally known as Tonèx) and how he was black balled from the gospel/ Christian community.
Disclaimer: I’m not talking bad about the Christian community as i am apart of it as well, I’m just telling the story of B-Slade.
Anthony Charles Williams II is an American recording artist from San Diego, CA- He was one of the biggest gospel artist in the 2000s
The album that really put him on the map was called “ Pronounced Toe-Nay”. He brought a different element to gospel music. His music didn’t sound like the standard gospel music.
Here’s one of his performances:
He is know for having his own unique style and stepping out of the box, which back then was hard to do in the gospel community.
But things would soon change. B-slade did an interview with Lexi television in 2009 to promote an album. But her line of questions lead him to come out.
As you probably can figure out, this did not go well in the Christian community. Especially since at one point B-slade was married to a woman.
As he stated in the interview, him being attracted to men was NOT why him and his wife got a divorce!!!
after the interview, Tonéx disappeared. The public didn’t hear or see much of him. Until he came back into the spotlight as B-Slade. He did this so he would not just be associated as a “gospel artist” but as an artist overall.
and when i say “disappeared” i mean from mainstream music. He still created music under the name B-Slade.
Fun Fact: B-slade was one one the co-writers and singers of the theme song for “One on One”.
To this day B-slade has not stopped making music. (Including gospel)
Honestly, i wanted to make this thread to show that B-slade was really ahead of his time and people back then ( especially in the Christian/ gospel community) couldn’t and didn’t want to understand.
