Charlie Patino looks to be one of the best recent talents, if not the best, from Hale End. His composure and elegance on the ball is very rare for someone so young. He picks the ball up from deep areas and often likes to play diagonal passes or drive forward if necessary.
His passing range is amazing for a player who turned 17 years-old a few weeks ago. His best position is as a at the base of a midfield 3. He can play a bit higher on the pitch, but DM is the position in where he excels and his best traits shine.
Technically gifted and a very good dictator. His ability to control the midfield is impressive as well. The defensive capabilities he has is a major aspect to his game. He’s skilful with passes and good defensively, which isn’t a combination many youngsters have.
Patino is already 5’11” and will grow even more as he gets older. Despite that, he looks good on the ball and his agility and mobility isn’t a weakness, but a strength of his.
He often gets the most touches and most passes per game at youth level. So being in a possession based system is what suits him best. One of his main strengths, long balls, help slice the opposition defence. Ex:
His leadership is imposing too. Captained the England U16’s as a 14 year-old, and has been praised by the teamwork and hunger he carries. Called up to the Arsenal senior team at 16 years of age. People around the club claim he’s the “next big thing”.
Like every youngster, he has some weaknesses that should be worked on. His strength could be improved. As he develops, gaining muscle should be a goal of his to take him to the next level. Pressing is another aspect that can be improved, but it can be taught quite easily.
From the clips I’ve seen, and not only these, he reminds me of Frenkie de Jong. In play-style and body build/weight. Cîrjan, Azeez, Cottrell, & more players are coming through. Hale End keeps producing great talents.
