Why has Pulisic been playing on the right hand side? I assume it's for balance. Both Werner & Pulisic like to occupy the inside forward channel on the left hand side, cutting in on their stronger foot. You don't want two of your most potent attackers standing in the same space.
I would prefer to see him play from the left, he was/is devastating there, but I can see the logic in not wanting two players who naturally gravitate to the exact same spaces standing on each others toes, making similar runs etc. The RW experiment isn't quite working right now.
Finding some semblance of balance is going to be tricky as we have pairs of players (Havertz/Ziyech & Pulisic/Werner) who like to receive/play from v. similar areas. This filters through to how we attack (narrow), and how teams can defend incredibly compact against us.
If our attackers basically play within the width of the penalty area, we need to stretch the pitch somehow (i.e. FBs providing width) to increase defensive gaps: this is where we can get caught defensively. If Reece + Chilwell go, you've got maybe one CM/DM + 2 CBs covering. Bad.
If we are trying to keep ~5 players behind the ball + keep a robust structure defensively (1 FB, both CMs, both CBs), then one of the wingers has to try and maintain their width opposite whichever FB has gone. It's why I'm a bit surprised CHO hasn't featured more on the right.
It's a difficult problem to solve — a super imbalanced midfield is inhibiting a lot of what can happen (both ways), and it will take time for players to get acclimatised to playing with one another w.r.t. spacing & movement. It's not just as simple as “play all the forwards!”
