y’all pls stop reducing several ongoing conflicts in DRCongo to a single issue of “mining”. There r so many issues that extend beyond that. I don’t have the range yet 2 unpack this all but only viewing the violence happening ACROSS the country as mining only, disappears so much!
I’m continuing 2 learn what’s going on in my country - a consequence of WS, colonialism & imperialism which should also be named as factors into what’s happening. The hyper focus on mining & electronics erases this. It’s useful to understanding intl supply chains not much else.
It also erases Indigenous communities, women & gender diverse folks, LGBT+, disabled, etc who are the communities who bear the biggest brunt of these interconnecting violences.
Ppl in what is now known as Congo have been protesting for centuries. Fighting for liberation from these structures. Presently, this is happening across the country focused on different issues such as SGBV, police brutality, ethnic cleansing, etc & not only mining.
this is all so overwhelming. Most Congolese diasporic folks are also confused and spreading (dangerous) misinformation, a colonial violence in and of itself. We can’t move forward bc there is so much discord within the communities. We are going in circles.
