#SACNAS2020 got me thinking about my experience in STEM. Two things come to mind: 1. Impostor syndrome is real. 2. Self-advocacy is important.
1. Impostor syndrome: I felt like I was not good enough, or that I struggled more than everyone else, so I must not cut out as a scientist. What gets me through all the times I feel this way is the confidence my parents and my professors and mentors have on me. Real confidence.
2. Self-advocacy: in the face of injustices and also the fight agains my own self-doubt, I had to fight for opportunities I deserve. If I don’t fight for these, hardly anyone else will. And those who can/want to help, need to see your commitment! Fight for your future and dreams!
