What is a "Super-2" player in MLB? A thread:

Once a player is added to a major league roster for the first time, his team has 6 years of control over his contract before he becomes a free agent. Those 6 years are tracked with Service Time.
Players accrue MLB Service Time by being active on the MLB roster or on the MLB injured list. Service time is expressed as "4.135" which means 4 years and 135 days of service. A full year of Service Time is 172 days.
At the end of a season, the contracts for all players with total MLB Service Time less than 3.000 "auto-renew", which means the contracts are automatically renewed by the team for the next season at a salary that has to be at least the collectively bargained MLB minimum,
but is often slightly higher for those with at least a year or two of MLB service.

Any player with MLB service between 3.000 & 6.000 becomes arbitration eligible, meaning he can argue for a higher contract before a panel of arbiters.
His argument for a raise is based on performance & salaries of other players w/ similar service time & performance historically.

Players w/ Service Time btw 3.000 & 4.000 are arb-eligible for the 1st time, btw 4.000 & 5.000 for the 2nd time, btw 5.000 & 6.000 for the 3rd time.
Here's the Super-2 part:

Any player with less than 3.000 years of service but who's total Service Time is in the top 22% of all players with less than 3.000 years of service, is declared a "Super-2" player and becomes arb-eligible one year early.
These players are arb-eligible for 4 seasons, instead of just 3.

The "Super-2 cutoff" for each season is the amount of Service at which a player earns Super-2 status. It's typically around 2.130, but over the past 11 yrs, that cutoff has been as high as 2.146, as low as 2.115.
While the actual Super-2 cutoff won't be known for another month or so, the following #Braves players will almost certainly be Super-2 players this offseason, current service time in ()

Max Fried (2.148)
AJ Minter (2.162)
Mike Soroka (2.146)
Sean Newcomb (2.166)
