Another Pointless cricket thread demonstrating that next to no one in the UK watched the 2019 Cricket World Cup that England hosted, showing the failure of British cricket administrators in the last decade or so. Contestants named Ross Taylor, Quinton de Kock and Rashid Khan 1/
Both Ross Taylor (century maker) & Rashid Khan (took 4 or more wickets in any 2019 WC match) were incorrect answere. Quinton de Kock (any WK) scored 1 point. Pointless WK answers besides those pictured were Nicholas Pooran, Kusal Perera Liton Das, & Tom Blundell, among others. 2/
Besides those pictured, pointless answers for Century Makers at 2019 WC were Avishka Fernando, Imam-Ul-Haq, and Mushfiqur Rahim. It means Nicholas Pooran was a pointless answer in two categories (name any WK and name anyone who scored a 2019 WC century.) 3/
In the Name Any Bowler who took 4+ wickets in a match at the 2019 WC, besides those pictured other pointless answers were Imram Tahir, Jimmy Neesham, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Mohammad Nabi, Nuwan Pradeep, Oshane Thomas, Sheldon Cotterell, Nuwan Pradeep, Shakib Al Hasan. 4/
So basically, half of 2019 World Cup runner up NZ were Pointless, arguably the standout player of the tourney from group stage (Shakib), the 2nd highest wicket taker (Ferguson), one Indian bowler who took 4+ wickets THRICE (Shami) and a Pakistani who did it TWICE (Afridi). 5/
Miraculously, no England player was a pointless answer. But the fact that so many Indian/Pakistani/SL/Bangladeshi/WI players were Pointless answers shows how much of a disconnect there is from the core diaspora communities. After all, Brian Lara was Pointless in my last rant. 6/
I think people would understand if the contestants struggled to name similar figures in the chosen categories from the 1975, 1979, 1983 or even the 1999 Cricket World Cups that England hosted. But these questions were for a tournament that happened just over 12 months ago. Sad.
