Its 21 October.

One of the darkest epochs in the history of Somali speaking people began on this day.

Lets take this opportunity to look back at the damage to the Somali way of life caused by faqash and their kacaan.

#KacaanMyth
#Somaliland #Somalia #Djibouti
#Economically:

The Kacaan's economic performance was abysmal, records show it lagged behind sub-saharan Africa for its entire reign.

In theory, the Somali Republic's economy should have performed A LOT better, after all, it was the largest aid recipient in Africa!

It didnt.
#Economically:

According to the World Bank, the Somali Republic under Afweyne's Kacaan was one of the least developed countries in the world.

Per Capita GDP = $170 (lowest in Africa)
Life expectancy = 46 years (!)
Infant mortality = 130/1000 (!)
Primary school enrolment = <10%
#Economically:

GDP of African nations for the period 1983-85:

Ethiopia: $8.9B
Gabon $3.7B
Kenya $8.5 Billion
Madagascar $3.5B
Malawi $2.1B
Papua New Guinea $3.9B
Senegal $2.8B

... #Somalia $1.3B <----- (!!!)
#Economically:

Banana production & export was one of the most important sources of hard currency for the country.

This sector fell of a cliff as soon as the Kacaan takeover began in 1969.

Afweyne decimated Banana operations, the numbers never recovered to pre-Kacaan levels!
#Economically:

The World Bank is explicit in stating that between 1970 and 1980 (the beginning of Afweyne's Kacaan), there was NO REAL GROWTH in per capita income.

(and yet faqash continue to try and claim the Somali Republic was BOOMING during Kacaan 😁).
#Economically:

What about all the projects you hear about that were completed during Kacaan?

The Kacaan's development expenditure was ENTIRELY financed by external assistance, i.e. AID.
#Economically:

This level of economic failure was unprecedented.

To make things worse, HUGE DEBTS were incurred in the process.

This list shows the Kacaan was indebted to every int. organisation in the world. Debt service payments alone were enough to cripple the economy!
#Economically:

Beyond unimaginable levels of debt. The Kacaan was sustained by generous inflow of international aid, it received more aid per capita than any other gov.

Every single notable project was financed by aid or debt because the country was so mismanaged economically.
To name a few aid+debt financed projects:

Jamame road (1971)
Construction of Port of Mogadishu (1972)
Afgoie road (1973)
University of Mogadishu (1974)
Telecommunication system (1975)
Juba Sugar Project (1977)
Berbera-Burco road (1977)

..etc etc, think of any notable project ..
#Socially:

One of the biggest lies peddled by Kacaanist was that the Kacaan achieved 70% literacy rate.

This was seen by all international observers at the time to be a complete fabrication.

In fact, in 1990, the UN estimated #Somalia's literacy to be only 24%.
#Socially:

The Kacaan systematically erased Somali history.

Real Somali heroes like Sheikh Bashir, Hassan Abtow, Farah Omar, Sheikh Hassan Barsane, Sheikh Gafle were all removed from history books.

.. and replaced with Darod figures, including the terrorist Dervish movement.
#Socially:

Favouritism, bribery, graft, embezzlement and nepotism seeped so deeply into every facet of the Somali state.

Barre favoured his Darod clan and allowed them unfettered access to abusing incoming foreign aid.
#Socially:

Afweyne came to the fore at a time when the Somaliweyn dream was very much alive. Somalis yearned for unity across the 5 Somali regions.

Barre ushered in the age of clannism by allowing his Marehan clan to abuse, monopolise and steal in the name of the Somali state.
#Socially:

How can we forget what the Kacaan did to Bajuni & Bantu people?

Their land appropriated by Darod clans (Marehan, Majerten and Dhulbahante) abusing their access to the Somali state.

The Kacaan was nothing but a false facade to allow certain clans to loot the country.
#Socially:

The Afweyne Kacaan was the first regime in Somali history to arm Somali clans against each other, as a ploy to prolong its own life.
#Socially:

The Kacaan shelled Somali cities. We all know what it did to Hargeisa, Burco, Berbera, Ceerigaabo and other Somaliland cities...

.. But did you know it also shelled the Hawiye quarters of Muqdisho?
#Socially:

The Kacaan and its leader stole all assets in the National Bank (including all the gold) before fleeing to his native Marehan land.
Objectively speaking, there is no redeeming quality, history or achievement to Afweyne's Kacaan.

In this regard it is no different from the legacy left by the Nazi party in Germany (aka German "Kacaan").
... Yes, some faqash affiliated with Afweyne through clan will remember the Kacaan fondly as a period where they enjoyed ill-gotten proceeds of State corruption (Booli Qaran).

But, objectively speaking, for all other Somalis, the Kacaan was a disaster.
#Religiously:

Afweyne's Kacaan was the ONLY regime in Africa to attempt to ERASE verses from the Quran.

Siad Barre was denounced by the foremost Islamic scholars including Sheikh Abdelhamid Kishk: https://twitter.com/Xisaabiye/status/1318943892599984128
#Militarily:

The Kacaan bankrupted the Somali state by taking Somalis unprepared into an all out war with Ethiopia in 1977.

It then made Somali Republic an international pariah state by switching sides mid-war.. fighting with no allies.

Even in war, the Kacaan was a failure.
(we are not done)

#Economically:

To better understand just how impoverished the Somali Republic was under Afweyne's Kacaan, here are some numbers published by the Kacaan itself:

1975 Budget:

TOTAL revenue: 774 million Somali Shillings.

Guess what the exchange rate was? 👇🏾
The official rate = 6.23270 Shillings per US dollar (real rate was much worse, but lets use the official)

Somali Republic's 1975 budget:
774million/6.23270 = $124,183,740 (in 1975)

Adjusted to inflation= $533,375,311 (in 2020)

Comparable to SL's budget today, without Ictiraaf!
(we are still going 😁)

#Economically:

We've all been watching the circus run by @DrBeileh over the issue of #Somalia's "debt relief".

But who took on that US$5.2 BILLION debt? And what was the Somali Republic's external debt levels pre-Kacaan?

(try to guess, answer below)
👇🏾
According to the National Bank of #Somalia:

External national debt in 1968 was 353.7 million Somali Shillings.

or US$243.7 million adjusted to inflation today.

This figure doubled by 1972!

The bulk of the current $5.2 (B)illion debt was incurred during Afweyne's Kacaan. Fact.
