Two weeks of nationwide protests against police brutality in Nigeria turned deadly Tuesday as security forces fired live rounds on demonstrators, killing several people.
why are people protesting?
Nigerians began demonstrating , calling for the ban of a notorious police unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, that has been long accused of violent harassment. The protests erupted after a video showed a SARS officer allegedly shooting a man in Delta state before driving off.
Peaceful protests, organized under the hashtag #EndSARS

What is SARS?
Formed in 1992, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad is a heavily armed police unit to fight violent crime including car jackings and armed robbery, and has become synonymous across much of Nigeria with allegations of police brutality and impunity.
initially they are fighting “violent crime” with immense amounts of violence against the people, even innocent people.
How can we help?
1. PLEASE STAY INFORMED!!! There is nothing more important than be informed, read up on whats happening, ie: read carrds, news articles, tweets and there are even a couple of tiktoks. But please inform yourself and inform others.
2. Use your platform and please use your voice. If u are reading this then obviously you have a twitter account , it takes less than a second to retweet someone’s post for you moots to see, if u have an other social media use that as well. Please inform your friends
and your family. Right now this is v important to get this out so that Nigeria has more people helping them fight this battle.
3. PLEASE IM BEGGING, reach out to those in nigeria or with family there, they need you right now more than ever, they are going through hell right now and need a someone to talk to please just reach out and make sure they are ok and let the talk.
