Cut to 2016, Mayor Quevillon’s urban development plan explicitly stated the intention of taking unceded land. In a meeting, claims Indigenous community was brought to the area by missionaries.
2017, 2019 - Multiple housing developments initiated in Oka once again slated for unceded Kanienkehà:ka territory
June 2020, archeological digs initiated on Indigenous land.
And now, this fall in 2020, the Oka Major& #39;s plan to claim the Pines as & #39;protected municipal territory& #39; initiated by the settler community with no Indigenous consultation. The same Pines that contain a site of great significance to the Mohawk community, trigger of the 1990 crisis.
