The government fundamentally doesn't want to govern.

It just wants to campaign.

When you campaign, you don't ever deliver a policy: you just create a conflict that lets you paint your opponent as unreasonable. And then you do it again. And again

And that's this govt...
They start fights with the EU. They start fights with Scotland. And then with Wales. With Manchester, and then Liverpool. With judges. The London transport network. The CBI. Even bloody archbishops.

There's no positive policy on any of these things. Just an instinct to fight...
And in each case, all they're really doing is making you question the integrity of people who observe and maintain laws and standards.

"Look", the govts says, "these people are against us cos they're lefties".

And govt fans nod, and shout "Yes! Bloody lefties"...
And then those being attacked spend energy explaining they're not lefties, they just did their bloody homework. They're forced to be defensive.

And meanwhile, the govt still delivers nothing for the public. It just hands out dodgy contracts, and looks for the next fight...
The reason this is happening is: Brexit.

That campaign did exactly what the govt does now - no solutions, no details, just fight everyone, all the time.

And it won.

And then, off the back of that, the Tories chose Boris Johnson, who also only knows how to fight...
And Boris Johnson chose Dominic Cummings, who only knows how to fight.

And then the govt drove out most of the grown-ups out of the party: those with experience of governing, those wanting to deliver, those doing the homework and asking awkward questions...
So now we have a party leader who only knows how to start a fight.

He's backed by an un-sackable adviser who only knows how to start a fight.

They've stuffed the cabinet with people like Priti Patel, who starts a new fight every day...

Not one of them is able to govern...
But rather than learn, they just start fights. It's easier. They like it.

Hence Manchester. Hence judges. Hence archbishops.

And next week, there'll be something else, because above all else they MUST avoid questions about governance.

Cos they can't answer them.
