How I went from 1500 to 2207 followers on Twitter this Summer?

What I gained from learning Twitter Game?

My observations and points I am going to follow to get to 5K next.

A THREAD ⤵️
All this started with me getting to know very interesting people on twitter like @shl, @david_perell and @dvassallo.

I used to be an active observer on Twitter last year but never took action to grow my own twitter.
With COVID, @hellomeets moved online and I had the opportunity to invite all the people I like on twitter as speakers to our meetups and get the exciting learnings I was getting to the community.

So I decided to become active here. Now it's my only hangout place.
5 points on How I started building my own twitter?

1) I started writing some short posts on my medium and sharing the tweet threads here.
This was in May. I was naive with ideas :)

Here are the 10 short posts I wrote ⬇️

Lesson from this one🎯: For marketers, learn copywriting & psychology.

For writing: What you learn, practise by writing for your community. Write, test and repeat.

For psychology: Best way to learn psychology is to build a community of what you love.

Lesson from this one 🎯: As beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, meaning lies in the mind of the reader.

The things I listened to and read when I started with @hellomeets , now look different to me. And I am sure this will change further.
2) All this while I was tweeting to people I like inviting them to come to @hellomeets and share their learning with our community.

And I got some awesome response. I met some amazing people and we did a meetup with them. Here's the list:⬇️
Note: You need to have a purpose to grow your twitter and build relationships.
People help those who help themselves.

Consistent work helps in gaining attention and yes from people.
3) I keep engaging with like-minded people here.

Add some value to their posts and keep talking.
4) Now I also do weekly one on one hangouts with interesting people from twitter. I say hello, pitch and share my calenday link with them requesting for a quick 10 mins catch.

It really works, people are mostly nice and it helps in building deeper relations.
5) I still keep posting threads and share learnings from books I am reading, HelloMeets and more.

So this is what I did to get to 2207. 🎉🍾
Now here is what I think works? and what I need to improve?
1) People should be clear about, "Why should they follow you?", "What will they get?"

I recently changed my bio on twitter to

"Get to discover the most interesting startup people on my feed."
from this.
I also had a pinned story on "4 years of @hellomeets" and people used to keep liking it, I had posted it on top to gain trust, I have been working on it for 4 years 😀
I have seen this, people love to help consistent people as they know they help time will multiple.
Lesson🎯: Our twitter is a product. Like How I will pitch @hellomeets or how will you pitch your product.

People should know what it does so that all like minded people get attracted to use it.

I will again put some pinned tweets around my new pitch and focus.
2) Now, I will be weekly tweeting about the interesting startup people, what makes them interesting & what can you gain from following them.

- People who I hangout with
- People who speak @hellomeets
- People I discover on podcasts & through books
3) I will be doubling on sharing content which aligns with my pitch, doing more hangouts with people here, getting more people to @hellomeets & adding more value to others tweet discussions and questions.

Hope this post helps people who are where I was at the beginning of Summer
🎯🎯Forgot to add the most important point: Having relevant followers matters the most. So having 5K relevant than having 15K random is Great.

Plan a consistent actionable plan for yourself to get the ones that are relevant for you.
