Off on a #CPD adventure to @No1Cathedral today to illustrate @bridget89ec @TeacherDevTrust and @informed_edu’s research that it’s not the #maternityCPD we do, but how we bring it back to the classroom that’s important #MTPTproject
Totally doable journey so far for buggy-users and baby-wearers coming from London and @No1Cathedral's website provides useful details for access and baby-change once you're there: https://www.canterbury-cathedral.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Disabled-Visitors1.pdf #MTPTproject
Here's the little stick men in 'Unleashing Great Teaching' illustrating this metaphor!

How do we actually use our CPD to improve outcomes for our students?

A recommended read for any #CPD lead or anyone interested in doing their own CPD better.

#MTPTproject
Here I am “shopping” at @The_Beaney learning about #Canterbury’s history and artistic connections.

But if @History__Girls or @CheltTeacher were to visit here and then use this subject knowledge in their lessons, homework and resources, then THAT would be good #CPD #MTPTproject
Still “shopping” in a beautiful Victorian natural and anthropological collection room.

But if these butterflies remind me to create a Language Paper 1 set of lessons on the moth room extract from Susan Hill’s “I’m the King of the Castle” then that’s good #CPD.

#MTPTproject
Some fascinating information here about religious history across China and India, but until a #TeachRE teacher uses these artefacts as teaching points in their lesson, I’m still just “shopping” and having a fun day out #MTPTproje
These Victorian chaps seem fun. But until I find extracts from these 19th century sources, including one from #JaneAusten ( #WomenEd) to use to teach non-fiction and Language Paper 2 then it’s all just trivia, not #CPD #MTPTproject
Unleashing Great Teaching talks really clearly about the difference between direct and indirect impact of #CPD.

So if this thread improves YOUR practice for your students, then MY “shopping” has been good #CPD

#MTPTproject
Little side eye because I took my mask off for the video! 😷😳
In the shopping metaphor, this is like me recommending certain ingredients for others to buy and use, which in turn make the final meal that someone else cooks, better. All sharing of best practice can have this positive impact #CPD #MTPTproject
The entrance is through the shop everyone (not obvious) and looks like buggy users will just need to boldly ask for help for a few steps, though there is terrifyingly gothic ramp access...! #MTPTproject
All the interesting historical, religious and folktale learning.

I’m teaching #WarHorse at the moment so this was a poignant connection to the animals who travelled to war from the Kent coast.

When we’re on #parentalleave, though, we don’t always know the students or curriculum or exact responsibilities we’ll be returning to. So is this idea of freedflow #maternityCPD and #paternityCPD pointless, or a beautifully liberating opportunity? #MTPTproject
In the shopping metaphor, these are the long life items that you pop at the back of the cupboard for a later meal. Maybe they’re exciting cake decorations or za’atar for that manaqish you dream of making. Or maybe UHT milk for emergencies. #MTPTproject
You might not know when you’ll need them and you might even forget about them for a bit, or maybe later give them to a more adventurous chef, but as long as they’re in date and you have the storage space, don’t throw this learning away if it has the chance to be #CPD #MTPTproject
Whenever I go on #CPD adventures, I’m always reminded of my own gratitude for being exposed to such spaces through my parents and school visits. Especially in our #COVID19 landscape, what will be the impact on our students’ schema it they can’t access these spaces? #MTPTproject
Lots of quiet spaces to sit in the cathedral to take a break, have a feed or manage baby-logistics, too #MTPTproject
If I finish these P1Q5 resources, using the paintings I saw @The_Beaney today, share them on @LitdriveUK, or use them as lessons, cover lessons, or revision materials for my own students, then today counts as #CPD.

If not... is it just art appreciation? #MTPTproject
If I read this @Usborne retelling of the #CanterburyTales then that’s not #CPD just yet.

The moment I lend it to a student, create and use a resource for our “Myths and Legends” unit or influence our Yr7 lead to include a tale in our MTP, though, it becomes #CPD! #MTPTproject
