President Michel Aoun's live speech kicks off. He is addressing the nation with "complete honesty" on the difficulty of the coming stages. #Lebanon
Pres. Aoun: "Reform remains a slogan that politicians repeat while they do the opposite. They call for it without doing anything to achieve it as they prioritize their personal interests until we reached a point where corruption became rooted in our institutions." #Lebanon
*Something about how he wanted to make a change and had a reform plan but they didn't let him go through with it.*
"Today I ask, what is the social situation of our people in the absence of a comprehensive social protection system (known as Old Age Security) which I proposed a law for that hasn't been passed yet."
"Where are the medical and healthcare benefactions to our people?"
"Where are we in terms of lifting subsidies on vital goods, most of which are imported?"
"Where is the economy whose returns ate up people's deposits and savings? Where is the economic plan and who failed to implement it? Where are the sectorial development plans and who failed to implement them?"
"Where is the electricity plan that has been sitting in a drawer since 2010 with no approval or implementation framework?"
"Where is the dam plan to make use of Lebanon's natural wealth of water?"
"Where are the rest of the reform plans? Where are the 47 items that were approved in a collective meeting in Baabda Palace but none were implemented? Why is there an escape from taking responsibility? Who is benefitting from this slacking off?"
"Where are the proposals for reform laws regarding the recovery of stolen funds and investigations into financial crimes? Where are we in terms of following up on misuse of public funds?"
"Where are we on an initiative to rescue Lebanon from what has happened after the Beirut blast, whether economically, financially, or socially?"
"Where are we on aid programs, the French initiative, IMF talks, and contributions from the International Support Group for Lebanon?"
