Wokeism is winning globally 🙂
We may need new words now to establish the difference across ideological divides and across how it is used in the West and elsewhere.
But yes, the appeal of wokeness and elements of cancelling that we all want in some measure, cannot be denied. https://twitter.com/swati_gs/status/1318791938565459968
Sub-consciously (or maybe consciously), a lot of the tools we are using have emanated from the global Left.
Inter-sectionality, Critical *insert identity* theory, Decolonization, Cancel culture etc.
Thats why new vocabulary will be needed. Because the tools r validated anyway!
This is why the Right-Left difference in India along the Western template does not make sense.
Even the non-Left categorization may not be enough to qualify it especially if we use the tools used traditionally by the Left to create (or better still correct) cultural narratives.
The 'Left' in this country never cared for the indigenous population enough and had been a shoddy copy of international models. So their activism extended to treating the majority as oppressors instead of seeing them as a people who had a history of being oppressed themselves.
So quite clearly, that role of the Left had to be picked up someone else. Its a bit funny that the wing called 'non-Left' is doing the more radical stuff.
Wokeism tho is on both sides. Just that one had institutional sanction for it and ran roughshod. The other is discovering it
So 'Hindu woke' is actually a good way of framing it. Because in literal terms, a larger population is waking up to all that was missed in the past decades.
That also means theres no methodological criticism to be offered to 'Western wokes' because they are doing the same thing!
