This will be a can of worms. I am recapping what MTJJ dubbed as ‘88’. Many fans here are clueless about it, or only have an inkling. This explains why MTJJ have such animosity towards certain fandoms and why they are so so so protective of Yibo. Also a huge reason for 平安喜乐—

—being the fandom blessing for Yibo. This will be a recap. Like history. This incident is over and we all moved on.

However, there is a need, to know & understand what it is. Learn from it, understand & don’t repeat. I & some others get triggered because—

—there’s a scar. Need not be on our body, but it still will hurt. And also why I am so damn protective of my boy.

Let us get to it.

《 88 Incident Recap 》

First, you need to learn what is ‘prevention of traffic’. All agencies want their celebs to be famous, and when other agencies celebs seem like they could go big, these agencies would try to stop it. This is to prevent their market from getting smaller. In short: It’s business.

Since cql filming started, Yibo had been quietly ‘prevented’. This is the prelude to 88. The fire that started in cql filming site’s blame was pushed onto Yibo and was spread by many paid accounts (yxh): all wrote the same/similar headline in their post.

After which Yibo was attacked for his look as lwj. Many leaked shots that were of only his mid-expression, that looked funny/weird/ugly. And he was again bashed across all platforms. His look was used to compare against a web celeb, Xiao Wu & many changed his family name—

—from Wang (Yibo), to Wu (Bo) as a way to mock him. As the bullying was growing intense, the company had no choice but to issue a lawyer letter against accounts leading the defamation.

During this period, even Yibo was thinking that he don’t look good in period clothing. Causing MTJJ to make a huge banner saying “ Wang Yibo, you look very handsome in period clothing! “

It was also during this period (June), where the dating rumours were just rearing it’s head. YH clarified it.

88 happened right after cql finished airing. It was one of the most torturous period.

2019 Aug 11th ~ 18th. 8 nights in Aug. The day before, Yibo got ZIC championship. And the next, the start of 88.

Instead of congratulations, what came was a barrage of hate messages and defamation. 53 paid accounts lead the way in bashing Yibo, spreading all sorts of defamation, like dating rumours & plastic surgery.

During these 8 days & night, MTJJ dare not sleep, staying up to clarify, controlling of the spread, washing of his tags & reporting of antis. Picture shows the amount of reporting that has to be done multiple times a day.

During these 8 days & night, Yibo was attacked with rumours of him dating, plastic surgery, his ZIC race, back to dating with a different girl this time, all of it hanging in weibo hot trending subjects.

The girl that was rumoured came out to clarify but was ignored. YH once again posted clarification that the dating rumours were false. Bazaar staff clarified that the Ox necklace was brought by Yibo. On the 16th, new slander about Yibo being the YH prince came out.

What the dating rumours caused: the girl he was said to be with has a questionable personality, thus shading Yibo’s personality being the same. As this was right after cql, where there were still many shippers, the dating rumours hit them hard and they turned & attacked Yibo.

Many yxh lead the way, sneaking into various platform, spreading the slanders. Many accounts were dug up and found to be under companies, proving that they were indeed paid to lead this 88.

On Douban, the barrage of attacks continued. There’s a new group leader heading the cql group. Rumours were spread that it was sold to YH. Group leader explained & at the same time, forbid MTJJ from promoting, clarifying, posting positive posts for Yibo. Antis post were allowed.

And the attacks continued. Certain fandoms wish their idol a happy birthday while stepping all over Yibo’s image. That fandom huge fan (many followers) directed the followers to antis posts, resulting in more cyber bullying.

The cyber bullying includes all sorts of curses, and photoshopping of Yibo onto various animals and even with pictures like cutting his head off.

How did 88 stop? Attention was diverted away when news about LoF broke.

What 88 did: Certain variety shows Yibo said he’ll be attending vanish without a word. Endorsements were dropped. Public image of him wasn’t good. I have seen many reaction videos starting with—

—“ I don’t have a very good image of him but... “ Thankfully, many slanders & rumours weren’t very bad per say (dating/surgery), cause Yibo is clean in the 1st place. This period had really tortured MTJJs and they were forced to learn clarification, cleansing tags & recognising—

—yxh/spies/antis. Also the reason why cMTJJs are so good at it now. Once bitten twice shy. Now they think twice before believing in any ‘secret info’ and only truly believe in official announcements. This is comparable to how we, learn not to count our eggs after 2020 ZIC.

That incident hit us hard & we learned how to handle it.

For Yibo, MTJJ once thought it did not affect him, as he was seen skating outside YH without a care during 88. However, his attitude show otherwise. MTJJ noticed how he suddenly ‘grown up’ & was a lot more mature.

It truly hit home when he came out with his song《Wugan》. He was affected, but recovered quickly & grown stronger.

88 also explained the animosity cMTJJ has towards 2 certain fandoms as they were a big part of the cyber-bullying in 88. Once an image was set, it’ll take great—

—efforts to overturn it. However, at this moment, none of what both fandoms did helped that cause. This is also the reason why MTJJ are now so protective of Yibo. And how all they wish is for him to be happy, safe & at peace.

88 is over. And shall remain over.

This is a recap to explain, and also a history lesson. Learn from it, grow from it. Do not easily believe in rumours & attack people. Think twice about every information. Only accept what official account announced.
