Review from @NuffieldTrust explores evidence on attitudes to non-medical #mentalhealth careers in the UK and Ireland. There is a wealth of literature on the factors affecting occupational choice but there is limited research on this group specifically. https://tavistockandportman.nhs.uk/training/workforce-development/national-workforce-skills-development-unit/publications/">https://tavistockandportman.nhs.uk/training/...
While the general view is that these clinical roles are valuable to society, the attitudes and perceptions towards the professions as a career choice tend to be negative, particularly in comparison to medicine. This demonstrates a lack of awareness and prevailing stereotypes.
But the review also identifies that motivations to pursue an altruistic career and experience of the actual role (e.g. through work experience) appear to have a positive influence on decisions to pursue a clinical career.

Findings also fed into our recent #LayingFoundations report which looks at attitudes and access to mental health nurse education specifically. https://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/research/laying-foundations-attitudes-and-access-to-mental-health-nurse-education">https://www.nuffieldtrust.org.uk/research/...
