One of the dumbest aspects of Navy promotion, (despite being very generous to me), is that a large portion of it is test based. Testing isn& #39;t *bad*, but they specifically choose most questions to be so obscure that I could ask people who& #39;ve been in my field for 30 yrs for the...
Answer to some questions and they& #39;d be as stumped as me, because it& #39;s stuff that is outdated and/or is inapplicable to the actual job. I& #39;m pretty sure the point is just to make a solid curve, but the result is it& #39;s a test that solely tests how good people are at tests.
I scored in the 99%ile but my actual raw test score was usually about a 60-70, and most of it was from being good at SAT prep strategy, which doesn& #39;t seem like it& #39;s necessarily getting the most knowledgeable technicians. It& #39;s pref to pure evaluations, but it kind of stinks.
