Many
#language #teachers have been asking me about what my students' output looks like after learning mainly through
#ComprehensibleInput and
#storytelling.

At the end of this thread are 5 writing samples from my Year 9
#Spanish class's unit 1 assessment.... [A thread] [1/6]

Aged 12-13, started their 2nd year of Spanish with me 6 weeks ago. 1 sample is a new student this year.

This yr we've co-created a story about a girl who always used to dance with a towel but she couldn't get into her favourite concert as she forgot her towel! [2/6]

We also co-created an invisible character & learned about what our classmates have hidden from or been scared by when they were younger

We've not done any formal lessons on any of the past tenses other than quick 'pop-up' explanations that arose naturally in the story [3/6]

They've also been doing 10 minutes of 'Free Voluntary Reading' every Friday.

This task was completed in 35 mins under test conditions with no notes. See pics.

They had to invent their own creative story based loosely on our own story but it had to be different [4/6]

Here are three samples of what the students wrote under test conditions in 35 mins.

You'll see I don't correct every error. This is deliberate as research shows it negatively impacts competence. I pick 2-3 to focus on for each learner [5/6]

And two more, including the student who was new to my classes this year.

Teaching
#languages through
#ComprehensibleInput and
#stories is not only fun, motivating and engaging... it works [6/6]!
