Thinking about how I'm in someone's PhD thesis because of a critical Goodreads review I wrote in 2012. The PhD writer looked up my Facebook profile and wrote that I probably criticized the book because I was a POC (not, you know, because I was a young literature scholar).

By the time this person published their PhD we both had MAs in Literature, but my opinion on a book they liked was based in the fact that I am brown. This person was supervised by the leading expert on South African literature, of course.

Anyway, now they have a postdoc position that I would probably sacrifice one of my lesser toes or fingers for.

(I'm talking ring or pinky fingers/toes)
